  • Mustangs to the Rescue

    21670 McGilvray Road SE Bend

    541-330-8943

Each year, over 100,000 horses are trucked over our borders to be slaughtered. Slaughter is a brutal and terrifying end for horses. Horses are shipped in overcrowded trucks, for over 24 hours at a time -- without food, water, or rest. They are often seriously injured or die in transit. The unwanted horse. The abused horse. The neglected horse. The horse whose loving owner had died and didn’t have an after plan. The horse whose owner suffered financial hardship. These are the horses we help. The purpose of Mustangs To The Rescue, an all-breed, all-volunteer, 501c3 non-profit equine rescue, is to positively impact the community we serve by supporting horses, their owners and potential owners, with assistance, resources and educational opportunities, thus improving the lives of horses and humans in our community.

  • People Helping People International

    info@phpinternational.org SW Bend

    541-213-9334 | 541-633-5125

    MISSION STATEMENT

PHPI’s aim is to empower communities in a culturally conscious way through; education, collaboration,
environmental sustainability, accountability, and creativity. Our primary objective is to empower
through educational access and opportunities and to maximize community potential by providing
tools, resources, and facilities needed for successful re-growth of Nepal.

    OUR HISTORY

We began as a group of trekkers caught in the 7.9 Nepal earthquake who wanted to make a difference. Our team began delivering aid to villages shortly after the first earthquake and we supplied emergency shelter, essential foods and crucial medical supplies.

Along with other projects, we completed our first school rebuild in February 2016 and are continuing rebuilding efforts by supporting the rebuilding of the Nyingmar Monastery on the border of Nepal and Tibet and with clean water initiatives through the devastated Gorkha region. We also foster the
sustainable development of rural communities through education and education-related materials.

    WHY US

Though we work internationally, three of our founders are local Bendites—Chadd Thornton-Tullis, Magdalena Bokowa and Josh Edwards were all in the 2015 earthquake and did immediate relief work together as a grassroots initiative. Along with Austinite, Claudia Hernandez—PHPI's president—they formed a nonprofit to continue their work in Nepal longterm. Projects are still ongoing, with members of the group working intermittently on longterm projects.

We assess the needs of every community we enter to evaluate what is needed most and foremost, whether it be an educational center, survival materials, solar energy, a clean air initiative, water, sanitation or more. We look to fill the gaps that larger NGO’s find difficult to access due to bureaucracy and logistics.

As one of the least developed and poorest nations in the world, Nepal cannot do this
without the support of people like you. If just 100 people contributed $200 to our campaign, we could enact life-changing projects for those in need.

Be the vehicle to enact powerful change. Be one of the 100, and donate to our projects today.

    2015 - 2018 Projects

    Nyingmar Monastery Project

Supporting the rebuilding of dormitories for 350 student and orphaned monks
on the Nepal/Tibet border. This is an extremely remote location that requires
extensive material and labor support provided by PHPI volunteers. PHPI is heading back to the region for another round of building materials this January 2018.

    Pokhari-Nibot School Rebuild

Volunteers rebuilt a collapsed school near the earthquake epicenter. Built using earthbags—an eco friendly, seismic resistant method. The 4 room school was also outfitted with solar—a first for an area with no electricity.

    Clean Air Initiative

Indoor air pollution is the second deadliest killer of women and children in
underdeveloped nations. We manufactured and distributed stoves to 53
    families
for indoor cooking. We hope to reduce the amount of chronic
respiratory conditions providing healthy, happy environments for all.

    WHAT CAN YOUR DONATIONS DO?

    A four-room earthbag school costs $25,000.
The Nyingmar Monastery is an ongoing project and more than $5,000 has gone towards rebuilding the dorms. We will be sending a new shipment of supplies January 2018.

$50 Backpack and school uniform for one child.

$75 3 burner clean air stove.

$125 School supplies and books for one class.

$250 New desks for one classroom.
